-evaluation-

Linkwood 2014/2024 1st Fill Oloroso Finish (Wilson & Morgan) retains the vibrant Linkwood character while offering a slightly drier sherry-type flavor with a pronounced nutty and dried fruit flavor, making it an easy bottle to enjoy daily. As befits Wilson & Morgan's Classic/Barrel Selection, it has been released as an unpeated Speyside single malt.

Aroma: Floral and citrusy notes from linkwood are layered with dried fruit, roasted nuts, orange peel, and a hint of spice from Oloroso. Rather than a "sherry bomb" dominated by rich cocoa and raisins, it has a refined, slightly dry Oloroso aroma, with hints of herbs and malt still present.

The palate is described as medium-bodied and slightly dry, with notes of citrus, red fruits, dried fruits, and spices. The hazelnut, almond, orange peel, and spices from the Oloroso form the foundation, while the floral and fresh notes from the linkwood linger, creating a balanced sherry finish that isn't overly sweet.

Aftertaste/Drinkability: The aftertaste is medium, with a gentle lingering flavor of nuts, citrus, and light woody spices.

With an alcohol content of 46% and aged for 10 years, it is easy to drink straight or with a small amount of water, but those who prefer higher proof drinks may find it a little milder.

Recommended for: Those who prefer floral and citrusy notes with a hint of dry Oloroso nuances, rather than the "extremely rich, sweet PX style." This wine pairs well with a wide range of wines, from during to after a meal, and its dry flavor can be enjoyed with salty snacks such as nuts, hard cheese, prosciutto, and olives.
