-evaluation-

Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown No. 3: The Ulver is a 12-year-old unpeated single malt from Glen Scotia Distillery in Campbeltown, non-chill filtered, and naturally colored. It features the Ulver, a wolf-headed, human-bodied creature from Campbeltown folklore who is said to fish alone and share his catch with those in need, symbolizing the town's caring spirit.

Tasting notes feature a rich, dense, and oily mouthfeel, with bittersweet malt cereal notes, red fruit, wild berry, dark chocolate, vanilla, butter, saltiness, citrus peel, and brown sugar, underpinned by a subtle Campbeltown sea breeze. The nose features sweet red berry, chocolate, caramel, and a slightly subdued ocean aroma, with a long finish marked by salted butter and fading red fruit. Reviewers praised the well-balanced flavors of the port casks, which do not overshadow the distillery's signature character, and described this as one of the strong autumnal series.

This is the third instalment in the five-part Icons series, following Mermaid and Dragon, and continues the artist's experimentation with port cask finishing, notably using the rare Tunney Port, whereas Ruby Port is common in the Scotch scene.
