-evaluation-

Glen Scotia 9 Year Old Campbeltown Malt Festival 2025 is a young, bold and complex heavily peated single malt. This limited edition bottle was created specifically for the Campbeltown Malts Festival, a popular event for whisky lovers.

Key characteristics: Aged initially in first-fill bourbon barrels, then finished for five months in red wine barrels from Spain's Ribera del Duero, imparting distinctive red fruit and wine-derived flavors.
Peat: Glen Scotia only peates for four weeks of the year, making this smoky release especially precious.

Tasting notes: Aroma: Plum tartness, grape juice, gradually increasing smoke, raspberry jam, sea breeze, vanilla, and Campbeltown's signature salty sweetness. Hints of licorice, blackcurrant and disinfectant.
Flavor: Red currant jelly, strawberry jam, cocoa beans, burnt oak, caramel vanilla, butterscotch, white chocolate. The peat is pronounced but well-balanced, with hints of brown sugar and burnt wood. The mouthfeel is a little light, but the flavor is well-rounded.
Finish: The peat smoke lingers for a long time, with a velvety mouthfeel. It also has a sweet and salty finish, reminiscent of chocolate and aged meat.

Reviews have praised the depth and complexity, and the red wine barrel finish is not too assertive, bringing out the individuality of the raw spirit.
The blend of heavily peated and red wine casks is exquisite, giving it a punchy yet delicate flavor, while still retaining the salty, distinctive character of Glen Scotia.
Some people have said that they wish it had a thicker mouthfeel, but the overall balance and lingering finish are so good that it's hard to believe it's been aged for nine years.
