-evaluation-

Glen Scotia 21 Year Old is a new limited edition single malt whisky from the Campbeltown distillery, filling the gap between the 18 and 25 year old ranges. The whisky is matured in refill bourbon casks and refill American oak hogsheads, followed by a six month finishing period in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks.

Tasting Notes

scent: The palate offers candy-like sweetness, lemon and rhubarb tartness, and gentle stone fruit notes, as well as sweet apple, delicate floral notes, a slight herbal undertone, aniseed, minerality, and dry grass notes.

Taste: The moderately oily palate opens with spicy notes of clove, ginger, and a pinch of pepper, followed by creamy vanilla custard, cinnamon-dusted apple compote, and a dry oak influence. Dill, fragrant floral notes, and hints of salted caramel complete the palate.

aftertaste: Medium length, dry with oak spice, lemon zest and vanilla.

Production and Availability

Glen Scotia plans to release 2,500 bottles globally each year. It is 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and bottled naturally. It comes in a premium bottle with deep purple and gold hues and features Glen Scotia's intertwined 'GS' logo metal coin on the shoulder.

evaluation

Praised by some for its complexity and balance, while others find the oak influence too strong, this offering aims to showcase the true character of a refined, classic Campbeltown whisky, with an Oloroso sherry finish adding fragrant floral notes whilst retaining the rich fruit and subtle maritime flavours that are characteristic of the distillery.
