Tasting notes and impressions:
Aroma (Nose):
Aromas of red berries, cherries, dark chocolate, raisins, and red grapes are complemented by nuances of cinnamon, Christmas spices, and marzipan. While the alcohol initially gives off a sharp punch, over time the complexity develops, revealing notes of pomegranate, cranberry, raspberry jam, and cola candy.
Taste (Pareto):
The acidity outweighs the sweetness, resulting in a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Flavors include raisins, red grapes, cherries, dark chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, pain au chocolat, and red currants. Salt and umami balance out the sweetness, while spicy oak and bitter notes add a finishing touch.
Finish:
It's medium to long, with notes of cocoa, spice, blueberry, dark chocolate, mulled wine spice, and bitter tannins. It's slightly dry and tannic, making it more suitable for whiskey connoisseurs than casual drinkers.comprehensive evaluation:
This whiskey is complex, well-balanced, and flavorful, though some found the port influence a little muted given its three-year port finish. A little time in the glass allows the bourbon and port casks to blend together, creating a richly layered flavor profile.
While it may not be called an "overwhelming masterpiece," it is a highly satisfying and unique bottle, and is recommended especially for those who like the nuances of a cask finish.
